Occupational Safety and Health Knowledge D: Fire Prevention Measures for High-rise Buildings
Hong Kong is known as an international financial center, with high-quality commercial buildings all over the Wan Chai district in Central. A top-level commercial building, which is known as one of the most high-quality commercial buildings in Central, has recently been reported in newspapers that its fire prevention measures are insufficient. In the unfortunate event of a fire, the consequences are not frightening.
According to the fire protection regulations of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, all buildings with a height exceeding 25 floors above the lowest ground floor should be equipped with a fire refuge floor. The fire refuge floor is a protected floor in the building and serves as a temporary shelter in the event of a fire. For the occupiers in the building to gather and rest temporarily. Therefore, the fire refuge should not be regarded as a “temporary sundries room”, and at least 50% of the net area should be kept as a fire refuge from time to time. In addition, the smoke-proof door must always be closed and always kept unobstructed.
TQM recently established a comprehensive occupational health and safety management system (OHSAS18001:2007) for the Drainage Services Department. In the newly completed certification body audit, all 7 branches passed without any non-conformities. However, in the fire emergency response The preparations, responses and exercises were all very well done.
