The World’s First “Green Prison Island”
One of the sites that the HKSAR Correctional Services Department (CSD) manages is Hei Ling Chau Island, an isolated island with prison facilities, addiction treatment, sewage disposal, etc. With the combined effort of CSD and TQM, the island has become the world’s first “Green Prison Island” with ISO 14001 certification.
Project Scope
- Develop and implement Environmental Management System
- Collect, analyze, and review data to minimize pollution
- Assist in the preservation of antiquities
- Assist in Ecological Conservation Programme on the whole island to guarantee a comfortable environment for endangered species
Achievements
- Hei Ling Chau Island became the first prison island in the world with Environmental Management System Certification
- Successfully protected ecological environment and historical sites, to meet the environmental protection commitment
